The Outstanding Service Award is presented only when the board of directors identifies an individual whose contribution to Catholic publishing warrants recognition.
Early in his career, Dave Island developed OCP’s marketing department and expanded the customer service department, making “unparalleled customer service” the goal not only of this department, but indeed of the entire company. He brought OCP resources to music, liturgy, and catechetical events nationwide, so by the time he retired, he was responsible for more than 400 events annually that OCP attended. Island also worked closely with OCP’s composers, helping to attract new talent and to promote their music. As Director of New Business Development, Dave was instrumental in many key acquisitions for OCP including North American Liturgy Resources in 1994. His proudest accomplishment, though, was the implementation of OCP’s Parish Grants Program in 2001. To date, OCP has awarded more than $2,000,000 in grants to almost 1,000 financially strapped parishes in the United States.
